Increasing the Speed of Your Computer

Before we start, this tutorial is based on the Windows operating system! Now, have you noticed that the speed of your computer is not what it used to be? In this case you might have missed some facts that can influence this. It is true that several factors can lead to a decrease in your personal computer’s operating speed but in most cases the regular user will see some common problems. With this in mind let us see these common problems and how you can increase the speed of your computer, basically make it run faster. We will analyze the three most possible causes for your problem.

1. Start-Up Programs and PC Speed

First off you should take a look at your system tray. You will see it at the bottom right hand side of the desktop, near the clock. If there are many icons there then you might have a lot of programs that are running ever since you turned on your computer, thus putting weight on it and making it run slower. This is because of start-up programs. They initiate as soon as your PC is turned on and the truth is that most of them are usually not of use to us. To make it even better, you might have not even noticed when some software added something there. In this situation they are only eating up resources. You will need to remove all the extra programs you do not need and if they are truly many and eating up resources you will notice an increase in the speed of your computer.

2. Fragmentation

Unfortunately fragments on our hard disks do appear. Any hard drive that is heavily fragmented will drain your PC’s resources because it will end up having to look through data that is simply not organized. Just picture a file cabinet that contains files in a random order. Now think about a file cabinet with files arranged in alphabetical order. Which one is better? The answer is obvious and so is the case right here. You do need to go through disk defragmenting at least once per month with once per week for heavy users. The good news is that your operating system will let you know if the drive is too fragmented. The first stage of defrag is scanning and analyzing the condition of the disk. Now keep in mind that with some computers you might be faced with a very long defragment time needed but it is worth it as it does increase the speed of your computer a lot in the event that it was too fragmented.

3. Registry Problems

A lot of people overlook the registry and this might cause your computer to run quite slow. Any computer registry that is corrupt or overburdened will take in resources. A corrupt registry usually appears when various software is not removed properly from the PC or if a process crashes. In order to repair a computer registry you will need to invest some effort and time. This is the main cause why people sometimes overlook this detail. Small errors that appear will add up in time and will lead to the PC “gaining” a decrease in operating speed.  Unfortunately the second drawback is that you do need software to repair the registry. There are free software packages available but the truth is that paid ones are better and they do not cost a lot of money (around $30) so you could invest in a good one so that you can make sure that your registry is clean and you will increase the speed of your computer.
